ISS Aerospace, together with the aerospace company Marshall of Cambridge and the software company sees.ai have recently launched their Lilypad system for the real time monitoring of wind farms. The system comprises multiple autonomous drones which can operate beyond the visible line of sight (BVLOS) utilising artificial intelligence and navigational sensors. The drones are deployed from dedicated offshore charging stations and monitored by a single pilot stationed in an onshore command and control centre. Inspection data and reports are transmitted to the wind farm operators enabling enhanced maintenance scheduling and more effective asset utilisation.
