About ISS Aerospace

ISS Aerospace designs and manufactures uncrewed systems for defence and national security. From our base in Chieveley, Berkshire, we build the aerial and land platforms, launchers and payloads that give operators a decisive edge, and we do it as a proud British manufacturer. Quality and safety are central to everything we deliver, and we are looking for the person who will own and strengthen both.

The role

ISS Aerospace is seeking a Technician to join our growing uncrewed systems team. This is a hands-on role at the heart of our production and integration process — building, wiring, testing and fault-finding UAV and UGV platforms and subassemblies to a high standard. You’ll work closely with our design and engineering teams, turning drawings and specifications into finished, flight-ready systems, and you’ll play a direct part in the quality that reaches our customers.

What you will do

  • Build, assemble and wire UAV, UGV and payload subsystems in line with engineering drawings and work instructions.
  • Carry out mechanical and electrical integration, including soldering, crimping, cabling and basic composite work.
  • Perform functional testing, fault-finding and rework on assemblies and completed platforms.
  • Support pre-delivery inspection, quality checks and documentation to ISO 9001 standards.
  • Maintain accurate build records, test logs and traceability for components and assemblies.
  • Assist with jigging, tooling and workshop organisation to support efficient production.
  • Work with engineers to feed back build issues, design-for-manufacture improvements and recurring faults.
  • Support field trials, demonstrations and customer builds as required, including occasional site work.

What you will bring

  • Experience in an electro-mechanical assembly, technician or similar hands-on production role.
  • Confident soldering and cabling skills, with an eye for a clean, reliable build.
  • Ability to read and work accurately from engineering drawings, wiring diagrams and build instructions.
  • A methodical, quality-first approach with good attention to detail.
  • Comfort using hand tools, test equipment and basic diagnostic techniques.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a small, close-knit team.
  • Eligibility for UK Security Check (SC) clearance.

Nice to have

  • Experience in UAS, robotics, model aircraft or a related technical hobbyist background.
  • Familiarity with composites, 3D printing or CNC-machined parts.
  • Basic understanding of flight controllers, autopilots or RC systems.
  • Experience working to ISO 9001 or similar quality systems.
  • A relevant qualification in electronics, engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in an SME, comfortable turning your hand to whatever the day needs.

Eligibility and clearance

  • You must have the right to work in the UK.
  • This role requires eligibility for UK Security Check (SC) clearance, which generally requires several years of continuous UK residency. Existing clearance is an advantage.
  • Some customer engagements may carry additional nationality or clearance requirements.

What we offer

  • The chance to build the uncrewed systems that give operators a real operational edge, with your work reaching the field, not just the workshop.
  • Hands-on exposure to the full build, from first components to finished platform.
  • A close, collaborative team where your input on build quality and process genuinely counts.
  • Competitive salary, pension and holiday allowance.
