SENSUS M Unmanned Aerial System
Sensus is a robust unmanned aerial vehicle. Produced as a VTOL multirotor, it was designed for a broad range of tasks. Primarily targeting the energy, environment, and defence sectors. It is a capable logistics, surveillance, and survey platform. Capable of taking a range of different payload options for different data capture operations.
Built from the ground up to be modular. It allows for payload and battery configurations to be interchanged between the top and bottom payload rails, whilst still having access to power and data feeds. Sensus features no less than 12 independent access hatches which can be tailored for different avionics combinations and mounting of in/out components and sensors.
Hydrogen or Lithium Polymer Power Sources
Sensus has two options available for its power source. It can run on traditional Lithium Polymer batteries. But also, has been designed for use with the Intelligent Energy 800W Hydrogen fuel cell, and is available from ISS Aerospace in this configuration with integrated fuel cell, regulator, and Hydrogen cylinder. Dependent on options and payload this can triple the flight time of the system up to 90 minutes.
Propulsion and payload options can be varied, with multiple subsets depending on the power source, Lithium Polymer or Hydrogen. The battery version of Sensus can take up to a 6kg payload. Whilst the Hydrogen version 1.5-2kg depending on chosen option.
The aircraft structure is designed, manufactured, and built in house at ISS Aerospace. The core hull comprises of 3D printed Nylon with chopped carbon fibre strands. Key components are further reinforced with either continuous carbon fibre, fibreglass, or Kevlar using our Markforged Mark Two printers. We also machine all our own carbon fibre sheet materials. Structures are held together with a combination of aerospace grade Tappex inserts and K-Nut anchor and floating anchor nuts. Fixings are with marine grade stainless steel or aerospace grade Aluminium/Titanium.
Pixhawk Cube Blue
Sensus 8 features a wealth of EDGE autonomy features such as Intel I7 processing, Nvidia Xavier AI, ethernet ground communication links and a inbuilt gigabit ethernet network. This creates a flying data node, capable of advanced data fusion and true autonomy.
RTK GNSS GPS
The Here Pro GPS is a high precision GNSS system, which also supports RTK navigation mode, built with CAN protocol. It is also designed to be dust-proof and splash proof.
The Here Pro has built-in sensors such as compass, gyroscope, accelerometer, and status LED. It runs on a Chibios real-time operation system. Its open source structure is ideally suited to developers who need specialized requirements on their navigation system.
Cost efficient high precision and RTK supported GNSS chip. Positioning accuracy down to centimetre-level in ideal environment.
The SF45B is a light weight, 270 degree scanning laser avoidance sensor. It has a horizontal field of view and a 50m range. Making it perfect as a baseline avoidance sensor as the front line of defence before more advanced onboard systems are utilised.
180m Laser Altimeter
ISS recognised the need for reliable and accurate ground distance measurement. It is a essential addition for precision landing, and allows terrain following modes in both loiter ad auto flight modes.
The Benewake TF03 LIDAR LED Rangefinder IP65 (180 m) uses a pulsed time-of-flight method that uses a unique optical system and signal processing circuit design to increase range performance while maintaining a compact size. In addition to increasing the range to more than 180 meters, the key parameters such as resolution, accuracy, repeatability and detection frequency also have excellent performance in the full range.
Mode S ADS-B Transceiver
ISS Aerospace offers as an option for the SENSUS UAS class leading ADS-B capabilities. Chosen for its technical abilities and quality, the Ping1090i unit from uAvionix was the obvious answer.
ping1090i is the world’s smallest, lightest and most affordable full range, dual link Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast (ADS-B) transceiver with integrated Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) Global Positioning System (GPS) and precision barometric sensor. At just 26 grams, it assists with Detect and Avoid (DAA) for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) operations in the National Airspace System (NAS). ADS-B IN on 1090MHz and 978MHz. ADS-B OUT on 1090MHz. Approved for use in the United Kingdom as a CAP1391 Basic Electronic Conspicuity Device (ECD).
Ballistic Parachute Recovery
Safety is critical when it comes to Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. We offer the Galaxy 10/150 Ballistic parachute system as an option with our SENSUS unmanned systems. This helps to ensure safe recovery of the platform and protection of people on the ground should the worst happen.
Unlike other systems. The Galaxy ballistic parachute system can recover the UAV from a minimum height of 10m, with the parachute being completely deployed in under 1 second.
The system also integrates a motor cut module to safely stop the motors a fraction of a second before the parachute launches to ensure the parachute doesn’t get tangled in spinning motors.
Long Range Ethernet Data
As standard, ISS Aerospace configures and includes a baseline portable GCS system on the SENSUS UAS. It combines video control and telemetry all in one compact unit. It has exceptional range capabilities up to 30km.
Acting as a hotspot it is also possible to run a traditional ground control software on a laptop or PC and create a ethernet link to the UAV for control and interaction. As well as more advanced autonomous missions. Video can also be streamed from the unit on a local network for viewing inside.
